The Old Bakery on 8th Gallery Café is housed in an old bakery building, circa 1903, which is a feature of the Maylands historic Eighth Avenue precinct. The Gallery Café offers an attractive destination, easily reached by train, bus or car, just minutes from the Perth CBD. The Old Bakery's motto is: 'Fine Art, Fine Food, Fine Coffee'.

The Gallery Café

The Old Bakery on 8th has reorganised and refocussed to integrate artwork and café spaces more closely. A special feature of the Gallery Café is the lovely rear garden for customers to enjoy.

Since opening in 1996 the gallery has established a reputation for sourcing an outstanding collection of Western Australian fine art and craft under the direction of partners Anne Butorac, Rosemary Cant and Kath Lymon.

The Gallery Café now is a closely related entity in which to enjoy art, food and coffee.

The Woodfired Baker

The original bakery and oven have been brought into production as a wood-fired, traditional bakery by 'The Woodfired Baker'. The bread is being used by the cafe which also sells the bread each day. Artisan breads using organic ingredients and traditional sourdough are produced by hand as they were in the 1900s. The bread is being used by the café which also sell the bread each day.

Monday Supper Club

Monday Supper Club is held in the garden in summer months and in the warmer café during winter. Visit summersupperclub.com for more information about the next one. for more information and to secure your places. These are regularly booked out so get in early.

We have welcomed Jane Corne's organisation of these great events and the positive response from audiences to the talented musicians and wordsmiths she has invited to perform. The Old Bakery on 8th Cafe supports with a selection of bread from the Woodfired Baker and a choice of three main meals, including a vegetarian dish.

Poet in Residence Program

The Cafe is pleased to be part of an Australian Poetry initiative, sponsoring original poetry and local poets. Flora Smith is a published poet who will be the Old Bakery's 'Poet in Residence' Tuesday and Thursday mornings over the next three months. Come and meet Flora, talk poetry and if you are a budding poet, bring some poems to share with her.

Functions and Catering

The Old Bakery on 8th Gallery Café and garden provide a lovely setting for functions or special occasions throughout the year, including after-hours events. The Cafe also offers excellent catering. Bookings and inquiries can be made by ringing cafe staff on 08 9271 5120.
