Something About Beauty

Sunday 4 May 2.30 pm to Sunday 1 June
Something About Beauty celebrates feminine forms fashioned in smoke-fired paper-clay with sculptural pieces and wall plaques, embellished with fabric, wire and beading.
Describing her work in this exhibition, Beth says :
My work explores notions of beauty: The Japanese kimono as a surface for a work of art; the kimono wrapped over and around the female form; hints of the figure beneath these complicated surfaces;
my own form. I question the source of my ideas of beauty.
These women are bold and a little sassy and perhaps even sexy in their peignoir of smoke markings. They are confident in their own power and perception of themselves.
They are role models for all young women. They join the conversation about where beauty fits into the female perception and thought. They are sweet, but not innocent. Some are jewelled but not snobbish.
The smoke markings lay like peignoirs over the surfaces of the female form, allowing glimpses of the form beneath.
These layers are used in much the same way as the kimono and geisha make-up allows only a glimpse of the beauty of the female form.

Opening hours Tues– Sat 10.00am to 5.00 pm. Sun 12.00 – 4.00 pm (Mon closed)
